Why FIT?
It was my dream to live in NYC and work in the fashion industry. FIT offers a front row view of the industry, from an opportunity as a backstage dresser at the first Seventh On Sixth tent shows in Bryant Park to current high-level business networking opportunities as alumni.
Year graduated?
1995 with two degrees and the George Levinson Award
Major?
Fashion Buying & Merchandising and Marketing: Merchandise Management
After FIT?
I worked for a knitwear manufacturer, buying office and public relations agency before setting out on my first entrepreneurial endeavor opening an upscale women's clothing boutique. I went on to start an e-commerce boutique and a luxury event planning company. The combined strategic processes, challenges faced, skills acquired and range of experience gained ultimately prepared me to launch Repeat Roses in 2014.
What experiences led you to who you are today?
Living and working in fast-paced NYC balanced with living and working in the tranquility of the Colorado Rockies (and multiple East Coast addresses in between!) before ultimately moving back to NYC 3 years ago. I'm grateful for the opportunities and unique experiences each entrepreneurial adventure across the country created as well as the people I've met with every new chapter, especially the mentors who have inspired me to pursue my business goals.
Daily routine?
Early morning meditation, a quick run along the Hudson and breakfast with my daughter are the a.m. essentials followed typically by team meetings and then a varied daily schedule. Every day is exciting because it brings new people, places and collaborative projects. In the past two weeks, I've visited clients, hotels and florists in 5 different states. No matter what, every day ends with a great dinner, a glass of wine and those precious moments to connect with friends and family.
Any memorable event or professor you’d like to share about FIT?
My absolute favorite was Professor John Mincarelli. Every class, he encouraged us to be innovative thinkers and contributors. Each course became a robust, thought-provoking discussion and creative opportunity to combine industry history and technical know-how with real-world business scenarios. I'm so grateful for his mentorship throughout my academic career; he even encouraged me to return to FIT as an adjunct professor.
Where are you from? And how did this shape the person you are today?
I grew up in Annapolis, Maryland. My Manhattan wardrobe still contains hints of the preppy staples from my youth, from pearl earrings to monogrammed button downs.
What do you find that sparks creativity?
A trip to the Met Costume Institute does wonders for the soul.
What three things you can’t live without?
I don't leave home without my iPhone, Ray Ban Aviators and Hermes clic clac bracelets.
Future projects you are working on?
Repeat Roses is honored to be repurposing flowers from some exciting national events in the coming months. Stay tuned!
