Forbes Magazine included you in this year’s 30 Under 30 – your story is inspiring and fabulous. Can you explain?
Thank you! I am very honored and thankful for this very special feature! I started my handbag line when I was 18 years old, working and designing out of my college dorm room (the alumni building). Danielle Nicole handbags fuse runway inspiration and real life accessibility in a feminine, chic and contemporary way. The brand represents a fresh twist on classic styling and incorporates detailed custom hardware and exclusive materials from all around the world. Bergdorf Goodman was the first retailer to pick up my collection when I was 19 years old. We adjusted our business model in light of the recession. The entire line retails under $100. Today, the collection is sold in CUSP by Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Macy’s, Von Maur to name a few. The collection is also available on NeimanMarcus.com, Piperlime.com, NastyGal.com, and Amazon.com.
Daily routine?
My daily schedule is different every day! If I am not traveling, then my mornings start off with waking up and checking our social media platforms. Followed by reading WWD and scrolling through the Google news feed. Mornings at the office start off with our production team then design team meetings. Afternoon is usually filled with sales, marketing/PR meetings and new business opportunities. Most nights, before catching a cab home, I like to close out the day with evening events that range from buyer dinners to charity events. I am a member on the Board of Associates for Ronald McDonald House New York, which is a very special charity to me.
When you're not designing?
I am traveling, working out at Soul Cycle, or spending time with friends and family.
Where are you from?
Ellicott City, Maryland
And how did this shape the person you are today?
I was raised in Howard County, MD. My family was very much involved with our community and schools. I felt very fortunate to be surrounded by a very supportive family and incredible community!
How did you become a designer?
I started designing with great passion in high school and knew my dream would continue at FIT!
If you could translate your style into a person, place, or thing what would it be?
My inspiration and style comes from my many travels to Europe, especially Paris! Europe has had a major impact on my style of design!
What are three things you can't live without?
My iPhone, water, and Vogue magazine
What do you find sparks your creativity?
Street Style and experiencing different types of culture. I love traveling to new countries and cities to learn about their culture and lifestyle.
Future projects you are working on?
We are launching a jewelry collaboration with Capwell jewelry coming out in the end of March.
